Adding Online Basemaps in ArcMap 10.2

This post demonstrates how users can add feature layers on to basemaps downloaded from the internet in the arcmap 10.2 environment. Various types of base maps can be downloaded onto the map canvas from the internet resources of ArcGIS.
- User must be connected to ArcGIS online resources via the web to be able to download the base maps.
Procedure
Click on the drop down button beside the Add Data icon, Add Basemap will appear under. In order to download the basemap, make sure ArcMap is connected to ArcGIS Online resources.
Various types of basemaps will appear for download, for the demo, we choose OpenStreetMap.
The basemap will be loaded onto the map canvas. See the Table of Contents- Basemap – OpenStreetMap.
User can pick the Zoom in tool and zoom in to area of interest. For the demo, this is Nigeria, West Africa.
Go to Add Data and load in a shape file layer. The feature layer will automatically finds the geolocation on the base map.
User can save the map using the downloaded base map.
