Creating vector layers from Google imagery in QGIS
Many a times, we need geographic information from satellite images to work with as vector form in our GIS softwares. Extracting layers from google, Bing, Openstreet (OSM) and other popular web maps is the most popular and open resource available to many mapping enthusiast. In order to handle some forms of remotely sensed satellite imagery, other specialized forms of knowledge will be necessary.
Task
In today’s post, our task is to create a layer of streets by the lake using data from a google satellite image .
Steps
- Launch the Openlayers plugin in QGIS and download the google satellite imagery
- Create shapefile.
