Performing Selection by Location in QGIS
This post demonstrates how to use the SELECTION BY LOCATION feature on vector layers in QGIS.
Task
Carry out a Selection by Location on vector layers, Major roads and Rail lines in QGIS to know which major roads intersect with the Rail line in order to select sites to construct rail line crossings along the major road.
Procedure
We have a map showing three layers- Schools, Major roads and Rail line.
Go to Vector > Research Tools > Select by Location.
This Select by location dialog box pops up. Our query is to know which Major roads have topological relationship with the rail line. We check intersect, overlap cross or touch in our criteria.
The Select by location turns the major road that meets the criteria light yellow (see direction of red arrow).
Short and simple. Thank you for viewing the post.
