SPatial join USING ArcToolbox in arcmap 10.2

Task

Perform a spatial join between a point feature layer (populatedplaceslowincome.shp) and a polygon feature layer (lowincomenations.shp) using ArcToolBox in Arcmap 10.2.

Procedure

Launch Arcmap and Add the feature layers, In the Demo Table of Contents, there is the populatedplaceslowincome and lowincomenations layers. To perform the Spatial Join, we click on the ArcToolBox

In the ArcToolBox, Click Analysis Tools> Overlay >Spatial Join

The Spatial Join dialog window pops up. Fill in the Target and Join features. Take note that the Match operation is ‘Completely Within’ and attribute Operation is One To Many since there is multiple relationship between the attributes of the points and the attributes of the polygon.

The Output Shape file is saved as JoinArcMap and is added onto the Table of Contents as a feature layer..

Right Click on the JoinArcMap layer > Open Attribute Table to crosscheck the Spatial Join.

As observed in the Demo, the attributes of the Lowincomenations polygon feature has been integrated to that of the populatedplaceslowincome.
