Using Select Tool in the ArcToolBox- ArcMap 10.2

In this post, we will demonstrate how to use the Select tool in the ArcToolBox.
Lets demonstrate-

Task
We have the shape file – Nigeria showing administrative boundaries of the States. On the attribute table , the States are grouped into different regions. We intend to use the Select Tool to excise out the States making up the North Central region.

Procedure
Taking a look at the attribute table of the Shape file. The Region field is boxed in red. The Select is based on that field.

Open the ArcToolBox  on the menu bar of ArcMap 10.2.


In ArcToolBox. Analysis Tools> Extract >Select


The Select window pop ups. Fix the Output feature class.


For the Expression (follow arrow), we will indicate to select states whose Region column indicates North-Central.


The result is an entirely completely new feature layer- North-Central.
